Nishimura’s life until now has been one of pain, violence, and determination. Ever since the destruction of his temple at the hands of the Obsidian Legion, Nishimura has vowed to do whatever is necessary to destroy Fu Leng and his Empire, regardless of the consequences. His tendency toward extreme violence has isolated him from the Brotherhood of Shinsei, though he has found new allies within the Spider Clan, and has taken to their way of doing things with ease. He has spent many years agitating the countryside and stirring up trouble for the Obsidian Empire until he was recently reassigned to a small unit within Toturi’s Army, as a gesture of good faith from the Spider.

After the summit on the Mantis Isles and Nishimura’s heroic actions defending all present from an assassination attempt by the undead monstrosity known as Noekam, the matchmakers present declared that Nishimura would be married to Yasuki Kaneko, his status as a monk not considered an issue. Nishimura accepts his duty stoically, however he has been reluctant to consummate his new marriage, always finding a way to politely excuse himself or be elsewhere. After a long, heartfelt conversation with his new wife and many hours meditating on his own, Nishimura has decided to purify himself of the Shadowlands Taint through the use of the Black Scroll possessed by the Spider, resolving to rely on his own inner strength to carry him through. Perhaps his time with the Crab affected him more deeply than he knows.

Incidentally, Nishimura’s time working for the Spider has made him increasingly sympathetic to the peasantry, which has made him somewhat of a heroic figure in their eyes. What originally began as a mission only to cause trouble for the Empire has grown, in Nishimura’s mind, into a crusade to defend these people from the deprivations of the samurai class. It is becoming more and more difficult for him to watch in silence as samurai continue to treat them with such disrespect, to the point where Nishimura’s first instinct in all such cases, as it is with many others, is violence. This will surely get him, and potentially those around him, into trouble one day.

Twenty Questions:

1: What clan does your character belong to?
The Spider

2: What family does your character belong to?
He was a monk of the Brotherhood before joining the Order of the Spider.

3: What is your character?
A monk.

4: How would others describe your characters appearance?
Beneath his mask he has angular features and a youthful appearance, though his eyes betray the things he has seen and endured. He is slightly shorter than average for a rokugani, but his body is whipcords of muscle and sinew, and at all times he seems ready to spring forward and punch something.

5: What is your character’s primary motivation?
Revenge for the destruction of his monastery. To become strong enough to face any opponent, no matter how powerful or monstrous, and enact his revenge personally.

6: Who are the people your character trusts most in the world?
His sometimes traveling companion, Daigotsu Hisato.

7: What is your character’s greatest strength and weakness?
His greatest strength, beyond his obvious physical prowess, is his determination; his drive to achieve his goals. His greatest weakness is the danger of becoming too single-minded in his focus, ignoring other things that might be equally important.

8: What does your character think of Bushido?
Useful at times, but for the most part an outdated code that has clearly failed, and should be discarded in favor of new ideas.

9: What is your character’s opinion of his clan?
They are the only hope of fully defeating the evil that has claimed the Empire and ushering it into a new age.

10: Is your character married?
No, or at least, not yet. Nothing is impossible.

11: Does your character have any prejudices?
He respects strength, of will and of body, above everything else, and overt displays of weakness disgust him.

12: To whom does your character owe the most loyalty?
Himself, and his lord, Daigotsu. In that order.

13: What are your character’s favorite and least favorite things?
His favorite thing is violence, in all of it’s forms. He has issues. His least favorite thing is weakness; especially failure to pursue one’s potential to the best of one’s ability.

14: Does your character have any recurring mannerisms?
He tends to pop his neck a lot, which can be annoying to some. His hands will clench into fists repeatedly when he’s angry and feels he can’t act on it.

15: What about your characters emotions?
He is fairly open with his emotions, except sadness and fear, as displaying such things would be a sign of weakness. Everyone knows where they stand with him.

16: How would your character handle a subordinate’s improper behavior?
By beating them. He has a lot to learn about command.

17: How would your character’s parents describe him?
He was raised in a monastery. If they were to speak of him, they would say that he has lost his way, and that he must meditate and pray for guidance.

18: What is your character’s highest ambition?
The destruction of the current regime and the installment of Hantei Daigotsu as Emperor of Rokugan.

19: How religious is your character?
His only religion is battle, and he is fully devoted to it’s tenets.

20: How will your character die?
Either in battle fulfilling his purpose, or put down by his brothers when the Shadowlands Taint eventually overwhelms him and drives him to madness. The thought that he may one day be purified and die of old age is one he dare not entertain.
